OAY Ujuzi Platform: Skills Development for Employability Programme

OAY offers volunteerism, attachment and internship opportunities for youth to enhance their skills, competence, and networking and get the opportunity to practice what they learn in college. This is currently offered in the Nairobi and Kisumu office through practical mentorship, guidance and assignments to co-lead projects.

Ujuzi Platforms Impacts so far ;

In 2020, OAY signed a 7 year agreement with World University Service of Canada to access national and global professionals and experts to shadow the youth volunteers
By 2022, over 100 have gone through programme
By 2022, 80% of the graduates of the program have secured jobs while four have secured scholarships for graduate studies outside Kenya
Two beneficiaries represent African youth in the global youth platforms
By 2022, over 500 adolescents and youth have benefited from the programme through peer mentorship and life skills development
By 2023, 3 beneficiaries have set up and run community based organizations ; and currently running initiatives aimed at solving their community problems
By 2022 , 4 beneficiaries have set up and run for profit companies as entrepreneurs
By 2022, over 30 beneficiaries have been trained and engaged as research associates , and Trainers of Trainers (ToTs)/Facilitators by OAY and other organizations

OAY believes in and values partnerships and collaborations. We base our partnerships on an understanding that is mutually beneficial and purposeful. While maintaining close relationships with past and current partners, OAY seeks to build and nurture new partnerships with Government, donors, academia, private sectors and other like minded partners in the sector that promotes resources, information, expertise and knowledge sharing while making sustainable contribution in adolescents and youth wellbeing. Further, OAY is currently promoting localisation agenda and seeking cooperation with international organizations to coordinate localization activities and increase effectiveness of development interventions. Become OAY Affiliate Organization

We base our reach on growing with affiliate organizations and stakeholders. OAY will continue to build its national reach through affiliate member organizations and members of ICPD Youth Coalition, The Advocacy Accelerator Collaborative (TAAC), and Scaling up Nutrition Youth Network, KAYSRHR and Mental Health Youth Coalition, targeting all the Kenyan regional economic blocs by 2023. Adaptive learning and locally led approaches is key to this strategy. OAY will continue to work with and through the affiliate member organizations, partners and stakeholders to increase services and opportunities to young people. Volunteerism and Talent Management

OAY works with expert and youth volunteers while investing in them to ensure that the team has the right talent, skills and competence. As a youth organization, we do not have to have the experienced staff but will build their capacity as the most critical resource in the organization. Also, OAY gives platforms to its past volunteers / staff and non-youth experts who may want to offer some support.
