International Youth Day! August 12th 2021!

In 1999, in its resolution 54/120, the General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference Ministers of Youth (Lisbon,8-12th August). That is when the 12th August was declared the International Youth Day (IYD) to be commemorated yearly. This day presents an opportunity to mainstream the voices of the youth on matters concerning them locally and universally through different platforms. Each year a theme is specially generated to address pressing issues that have been witnessed in the days preceding the IYD. The globe having been experiencing drastic climate changes, there is need to rethink the sustainability of food systems approach hence the theme for IYD 2021 “Transforming Food System; Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health.”

However, to address this issue there is need to also address other issues facing young people such as increasing loss of jobs and skills due to the increasing population growth. Therefore, in marking the 12th August 2021 International Youth Day Organization of African Youth Kenya (OAY), and Woven Link Africa will be hosting an online zoom dialogue on Covid-19 and other disruptions recovery policies and strategies for youth skills development and employment.
