Training Provided by the Organization of African Youth

Gathoni Kiboi is a student and an advocate at Masai technical training institute. She underwent training provided by the Organization of African Youth. Although the experience has been a learning lesson, it is also a challenge. As a result, she is able to identify issues affecting the youth in the institution basing it on their personal experience. The main issues identified were drug, substance abuse, and teenage pregnancies.

During focused group discussions, students identified several issues such as teenage pregnancy, drug and substance abuse as the topics of priority. Activities carried out to curb the situations, for example, distribution of condoms and talks on drug and substance abuse. Today, the students practice safe sex, and the cases of drug abuse have declined. As a student leader, I believe this is a stepping stone that will address major issues affecting the students.

The experience received has given her the skills in basic life knowledge, reporting, reproductive health, and Leadership skills. The skills have given her a chance to make changes in our institution. Having been the first club formed it has also benefited the institution as more clubs have come up.

I am thankful to the Organization of African Youth for the life-changing experience and for partnering up with our institution.
