Strengthening Environmental Advocacy in Nairobi

By Admin

In an inspiring move toward sustainable development and climate resilience, Organization of Africa Youth (OAY) Kenya is spearheading the Sikiliza Sauti Yetu! Dunia Inaita project. This collaborative effort, involving CRWAN Trust Kenya, Barnfonden, and WeWorld Kenya, focuses on amplifying the voices of Kenyan civil society organizations in promoting accountability, governance, and sustainable development across Nairobi County.

Project Goals The project is driven by three main objectives:
  • Enhancing the Capacity of Civil Society Groups: Through motivation and technical training, the project aims to empower various groups, including CSOs, CBOs, and schools, in tackling climate-related issues such as waste management, adaptation strategies, and policy advocacy.
  • Empowering Local Institutions for Ecological Advocacy: Traditional institutions are encouraged to engage in environmental campaigns, including tree planting and community-led waste management, to foster ecological protection.
  • Supporting Practical, Youth-Led Climate Actions: Local case studies and climate research are utilized to influence citizen action and government response, ensuring sustainable impact.
  • The project is in the process of developing a web-based platform that will allow local communities to report waste management challenges in Nairobi County. This platform will serve as a vital tool for identifying waste dumping sites and organizing environmental clean-up actions. Ultimately, the web-based application will support community engagement, enabling real-time data tracking and solutions for local environmental concerns.

Through initiatives like these, the youth of Nairobi County are not only being empowered to take on leadership roles in environmental advocacy but are also positioned to drive the region’s broader climate action goals. This project sets a model for local and global climate action, leveraging the strength of community-based organizations and youth-driven solutions to secure a more sustainable future.
