Our work includes:
African Youth Conference on Post-2015 Agenda: Held in December 2013 at the UN Gigiri, Nairobi & gathering 100 young people from 10 different African countries in partnership with UN-Habitat, Faces of Peace, UNDP, PACJA, FEMNET & VSO Jitolee.
Voice Africa Future: In this initiative innovative mobile technology platform was used to gather African youth voices on the post-2015 agenda. Lead by the African Monitor and in partnership with other youth organisations, the project was implemented in 10 Africa countries and a total of 77,000 voices were gathered and compiled in a report detailing the ‘Key Asks.’ The phase 2 of the project is ongoing.
National youth consultations: OAYouth held national youth consultations on post-2015 agenda in our different chapter including Kenya, South Africa, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, among other countries with an aim of developing national youth position papers to feed into the Governments national position paper.
African Youth Working Group on Post-2015 Agenda: In 2012 and after the youth conference, we formed an African youth working group on post-2015 agenda which currently has more than 300 active member from different organization. The group is used to share information on the post-2015 agenda process, opportunities for youth to get engaged and sharing youth position and recommendations.
Regional and global conversations: OAYouth was actively engaged in the regional consultation lead by UNECA and AU to develop the African Common Position on post-2015 Agenda representing the youth voices and ensuring their inclusion. We have also participated in the global UN thematic consultation particularly on population dynamic and environmental sustainability while also participating in the youth conferences including the Global Youth Forum & World Conference on Youth.
High Level Youth Policy Dialogue on SDGs: In August 2014, OAYouth convened a very successful youth policy dialogue on SDGs aimed at gathering and strengthening political commitment for governments to support prioritizing investment in youth development in the post-2015 era. In Collaboration with 5 UN Agencies (ILO,
UNESCO, UN-Habitat, UNAIDs, UNFPA); VSO Jitolee, Help Age International, Ipas Africa Alliance & African Monitor, the dialogue gathered 150 young people from 20 different countries and released an outcome with a call for specific youth-focused targets in post-2015 agenda framework. OAYouth was also requested to develop a strategy to support African youth engagement in the post-2015 intergovernmental negotiations till December 2015 using the outcome document as the advocacy tool.
ACT! 2015: OAYouth is the implementing partner of ACT! 2015 in Kenya supported by UNAIDs and The PACT. ACT! 2015 is global youth-led movement building initiative to secure a post-2015 development agenda that commits to two ambitious targets: Ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030 and Universal access to sexual and reproductive health &
rights and harm reduction services.
Beyond 2015: OAYouth is Co-chaired Beyond 2015 which is a global civil society campaign, made up of more than 1,000 CSOs, pushing for a strong and legitimate successor framework to the Millennium Development Goals.
Africa Youth Working Group on SDGs : Youth Strategy Meeting on 14th February 2014 where 12 youth led organization leaders and formed the Africa youth network on SDGs. The network is known as Africa Youth Working Group on SDGs.
