01 Summary

OAY was selected as one the Kenyan beneficiraies for the WUSC’s Flagship International Volunteer Cooperation Initiative: IGNI+E. Through the project, WUSC assigned ESCA Advisor to OAY for one year. The project advisors gave their time and expertise in support of development programs that improve opportunities for youth in developing countries under Government of Canada’s Volunteer Cooperation Program.

WUSC’s IGNI+E initiative sough to help address the root causes of youth unemployment in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Uganda, and Vietnam – particularly for young women.

The project layout Goal: To embed eco-conscious thinking into every daily child facilties’ routine, ensuring children grow with an instinctive respect for the planet.

Guiding Principles: Interdependence (connecting people and nature), circular economy (reducing, reusing, and "rotting" or composting), and climate resilience.

Facilitating Participatory Learning: Skills to move from didactic teaching to child-led, nature- based inquiry and foundational learning.

SDG Localisation: Translating global goals (like SDG 12 and 13) into age-appropriate activities for 0–8 year olds.

Sustainability Auditing: Training on how to conduct waste, water, and energy audits within a facility.

Caregiver Training and Curriculum: Focuses on "Sustainable Pedagogies"—integrating nature into daily care.
