From Kilifi to the World: Meet Dynamic Jacob Wafula
OAY has contributed a lot to Jacob Wafula’s advocacy journey through training in policies, tracking progress, programming, how to prepare messages to address issues affecting the young people community to the policymakers, budgetary allocation lobbying, and what an implementation report should contain. He’s a proud Pro-active Youth Advocate and mentor in Kilifi because of OAY efforts and capacity building on advocating for change, and now he’s the co-founder and the programs coordinator of the Angaza Youth Initiative. The Angaza Youth Initiative is a vibrant youth-led youth-serving Organization in Kilifi North sub-county. His role is instrumental in ensuring the implementation of the youth’s voice. Jacob’s work revolves around Adolescent and young people’s Sexual and Reproductive health (AYPSRH) and gender-based matters. He has been developing the Kilifi county AYPSRH 2019-2022 strategic plan, Gender Policy, among other vital documents that touch on the same areas. He also sits at the same committee to represent the youth’s voice, which he advocates strongly. At the ground level, Jacob plays a critical role in community engagements. In menstrual hygiene management (MHM), he has widely taken part in sanitary towels distribution and menstrual hygiene education across Kilifi. Jacob is an excellent educator on peace and security issues concerning gender, and he is very passionate about youth matters, which grow day by day. Jacob has won several awards. He’s thankful to OAY for doing a good job advocating for meaningful youth engagement. OAY has inspired many young people and linked them with available opportunities.
