OAY delivers this project through the following strategies;

Policy influence and Engagement

Influencing Youth focussed policy agendas and marking key dates and moments including World Youth Skills Day

Linkages

Mapping out, verifying employment and income generation opportunities and sharing with young people. Secondly, it seeks to celebrate innovative youth in private and public sectors who are putting an extra effort to create opportunities for themselves and other citizens

Student's skills development

OAY offers attachment and internship opportunities for youth to enhance their skills, competence, and networking and get the opportunity to practice what they learn in college/school.
This is currently offered in Nairobi and Kisumu offices through practical mentorship, guidance and assignments to co-lead projects. For more information go to Get Involved page

OAY volunteer mission

OAY works with expert and youth volunteers while investing in them to ensure that the team has the right talent, skills and competence. As a youth organization, we do not have to have the experienced staff but will build their capacity as the most critical resource in the organization.
Also, OAY gives platforms to its past volunteers/staff and non-youth experts who may want to offer some support while also sharpening their skills in youth programming. In 2020, OAY signed a 7 year WUSC-IGNITE Project agreement with World University Service of Canada (WUSC) to access global professionals and experts to shadow the youth volunteers

Youth Work Professionalization

Under youth work professionalization, OAY seeks to advocate for implementation of the youth work pillar of the National Youth Development Policy. We seek to collaboratively push for youth work professionalization and its recognition as a distinct profession and discipline.
This way, more employment opportunities will be generated while many youth will benefit from a grounded youth work that engages them at an early age and assist in talent identification and career guidance
